What is DIR Floortime®? A parent's guide
DIR Floortime® sits at the heart of everything we do. Here's what it means, in plain language, and why your role as a parent matters so much.
DIR Floortime® sits at the heart of everything we do. Here's what it means, in plain language, and why your role as a parent matters so much.
DIR Floortime® is a developmental, relationship-based approach to supporting children with learning and developmental differences. Rather than drilling isolated skills, it builds development through warm, playful interactions, meeting your child at their level and gently expanding from there.
D is for Developmental. We look at where your child is across all areas of development, and support the foundational skills first.
I is for Individual differences. Every child takes in the world in their own way, from how they hear sounds to how they feel movement and touch. We tailor everything to your child's unique profile.
R is for Relationship-based. Learning happens through relationships. Connection with the important people in a child's life is the engine of growth.
"Floortime" is exactly what it sounds like: getting down on the floor and following your child's lead. We join what already delights them, then create playful moments that stretch their communication, problem-solving and emotional range. It looks like play, because it is, but it's play with purpose.
In DIR Floortime®, you aren't on the sidelines, you're central. Because you know your child best and share their everyday moments, we coach and collaborate with you so the growth continues long after a session ends. See how we bring this into therapy →
